At present, all of our sensors are passive. They are designed to be extremely power efficient, which allows them to run the sensing circuits using the power harvested from the reader’s RF signal.
However, this means that a reader must be in close proximity at all times and must probe the sensor to take a measurement. For applications that require the sensor to regularly make measurements without having a reader nearby, the sensor would need to be battery-backed. We are currently designing a sensor that is battery-backed, allowing it to perform as usual in passive mode while using the battery to make periodic measurements and store them in memory.
